I know you want to know: How was training camp??
Honestly, it was incredible. It was challenging, busy, exciting, and so much fun.
The week started out with meeting our squad, going over Covid precautions, and trying to remember 30 new names and faces. We set up our tents and dove right in. Each day started with a workout and then was filled with sessions, everything from how to communicate the gospel depending on the culture you're in to fighting for unity and growth within our squad. We took time for worship and got to know one another (to be honest, I cried most every day in worship, because JESUS. Wow.) Every day was themed for a specific region, and we ate food from that area of the world. This included dishes like curry, sandwiches (“travel day”), and crickets. Yes, you read that right. We ate crickets. At the end of every day, we spent time together as a squad, doing team builders and learning how to handle different situations we might face on the Race (ha, that rhymed), things like having to sleep on the floor in a “church” with the whole squad, having a full night of prayer and worship, and the “airport” losing half our luggage and having to bunk up. Also, did I mention we only had port-a-potties and bucket showers all week??? That was fun (sarcasm lol).
My favorite times though were the little moments. Spontaneous dance parties because of a tornado warning. Worshipping the Lord together. Praying for one another. Seeing real healing happen and laughing until we cried. I got to spend time with every one of my squadmates and I am so excited to do life with them for the next year. Wow, thank you God for these people.
